When ruffles are used purposefully, as on the edge of a baby blanket or a ruffled scarf, they are really attractive. However, they can be annoying when you want a round motif to lie flat. Usually, there are too many stitches in the round, which causes the ruffle to form. Because there is nowhere else for the crowding stitches to go, they cluster up and produce a ruffle.
